218.55 Lakh Tonnes of Wheat Allocated for Sale / Distribution in 2026-27

New Delhi. The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has allocated a total quota of 218.55 lakh tonnes of wheat for sale/distribution for the 2026-27 financial year; this is approximately 27 lakh tonnes higher than the 191.56 lakh tonnes allocated for 2025-26.

Under this allocation, the quota for the National Food Security Act (NFSA) or the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) has been increased from 171.33 lakh tonnes to 214.47 lakh tonnes. Conversely, allocations have been reduced for the Mid-Day Meal Scheme (from 3.58 lakh tonnes to 2.00 lakh tonnes),

welfare institutions and hostels (from 95,000 tonnes to 3,000 tonnes), and the SAG category (from 21,000 tonnes to 3,000 tonnes), while 10,000 tonnes have been allocated for other categories. The wheat allocation for the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) has not yet been announced.
