Good Progress in Pulse Crop Sowing in Canada

Ottawa. Canada is a major producer and exporter of peas and lentils; it also produces significant quantities of Kabuli chickpeas.
The province of Saskatchewan accounts for the highest production of pulse crops in Canada, while Alberta and Manitoba are two other key producing provinces.
Due to less-than-ideal weather conditions, pulse sowing in Canada started late this season, but the pace soon picked up. In Saskatchewan, sowing of lentils and peas has already been completed across more than 90 percent of the targeted area.
Some sowing remains to be done in the northern and northeastern regions, and farmers are working to complete it. Weather and rainfall conditions are relatively better in the provinces of Alberta and Manitoba.
The pulse sowing process is expected to conclude by the third week of June. A report from the government agency 'StatsCan' is due on June 30, which will provide a clear picture of the area under pulse crop cultivation in Canada.
