Mumbai: The Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA)—a leading organization representing the domestic vegetable oil industry and trade—has stated that the amendment to pack size regulations for edible oils will have a broad, profound, and far-reaching impact on the industry and the market. It will foster an environment of healthy competition and transparency, ultimately benefiting consumers. This revised rule reflects a "consumer-first" approach, helping to eliminate confusion and strengthen trust across the entire edible oil value chain.
The SEA President noted that the amendments made by the government to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for edible oil packaging and labeling will soon yield positive results. The Central Government, and specifically the Department of Consumer Affairs, deserves appreciation for this new decision; the industry had long been advocating for this change, which has now been accepted.
According to the President, while the decision might appear at first glance to be merely a packaging change, in reality, it could have a profound impact on the edible oil market and trade.
The Association's Executive Director stated that this new rule serves as an excellent example of constructive collaboration between the government and the industry. It demonstrates that meaningful and positive reforms can be achieved when all stakeholders come together on a common platform with a shared objective.
