ABARES revised the production estimate of pulses
The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) has revised its production estimates for pulses, highlighting a significant increase in gram production and a reduction in lentil output.

Gram Production:
Revised Estimate: 19 lakh tons
Previous Estimate: 13 lakh tons
Increase: 42%
The favourable weather conditions in New South Wales and Queensland have contributed to the rise in gram production.
New South Wales is expected to reach a record 11 lakh tons in gram production, up from 7.92 lakh tons in 2016-17.
Queensland's gram production is reported to be 7.5 lakh tons, a decrease from the record 11.5 lakh tons in 2016-17.

Lentil Production:
Revised Estimate: 11 lakh tons
Previous Estimate: 17 lakh tons
Decrease: 34%
The drop in lentil production is attributed to adverse weather conditions, particularly in Victoria and South Australia.
Victoria's lentil production is expected to be 4.3 lakh tons, while South Australia's is expected to be 5.7 lakh tons.
This revision reflects the impact of weather on different pulse crops, with gram benefiting from favorable conditions and lentils being hit by poor weather in key growing regions.
