New Delhi. Thyme prices have recently risen by ₹10-12 per kg, and market sentiment remains bullish.
This is because recent unseasonal rains have damaged crops in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. According to reports, although autumn thyme sowing in Gujarat was comparable to last year, adverse weather conditions are reporting 25-30 percent crop losses.
Furthermore, the quality of older stock is declining, leading to a rise in prices of thyme in Gujarat's Jamnagar market to ₹95-160. Sources say that in addition to crop losses, new arrivals will also be delayed.
Thyme arrivals in Gujarat typically begin around December 15th, but this year, they will begin in late December or January.
There are also reports of 10-15 percent losses due to rain along the Kurnool line in Andhra Pradesh. New shipments will begin arriving on the Kurnool line after January 15th.
Therefore, market sentiment is not yet bearish. Sources believe that prices could rise by ₹8/₹10 per kg before the arrival of new shipments begins.
