Australia's wheat, canola and barley production forecasts rise marginally: ABARES
Australia's wheat, canola, and barley production forecasts have seen some changes due to varying weather conditions across the country. Here's a breakdown of the latest updates:
Wheat: Production is expected to reach 318.9 million tonnes, which is 60,000 tonnes higher than the previous estimate. This small upward revision suggests that despite some challenges, yields are strong in certain regions, particularly in Western Australia and New South Wales.
Canola: The forecast for canola production has been revised up to 55.87 million tonnes, which is an increase of 1.15 lakh tonnes (or 115,000 tonnes) from the previous estimate. This increase likely reflects better-than-expected yields in some areas, though some regions have still faced challenging weather.
Barley: Production is expected to be 116.65 million tonnes, which is 4.95 million tonnes lower than the September estimate. A significant decline is forecast for southern Australia, where production could fall by 4.70 million tonnes. Weather conditions, such as persistent drought, cold weather, and hailstorms, have adversely affected crop development. Below-average rainfall and frost in September, combined with water shortages, contributed to the reduced barley forecast, particularly in South Australia and Victoria.
Overall, while there are some positive production increases in wheat and canola, the barley crop is facing a notable decline, particularly due to the impact of adverse weather in southern Australia.
