Bangladesh to Import 100,000 Tons of White Rice from Vietnam
★ This import is part of a cooperation agreement between the governments of Bangladesh and Vietnam. The export contract will be handled by Vietnam's Southern Food Corporation.
★ The Bangladesh government has set the price for this deal at $474.25 per ton, which is higher than the global market price.
★ In 2023, Bangladesh imported approximately 2 million tons of rice from India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Myanmar.
★ The Bangladesh government has launched an Open Market Sales (OMS) scheme starting from February, under which 907 tons of rice will be distributed daily from 906 centers across the country.
★ In 2024, Vietnam exported more than 8 million tons of rice, earning approximately $5 billion, which is the highest in the past 10 years.
