New Delhi . In accordance with the earlier announcement, the Union Agriculture Minister held the first meeting with the delegation of farmers yesterday in which the farmers urged to ensure the protection of crops from stray and wild animals and fair price for various crops.

A delegation of 50 farmers and farm unions was present in this meeting. The farmers said that there should be such a system so that farmers are not forced to sell their produce at throw-away prices.

Apart from this, the crop insurance scheme should be made more beneficial for small farmers and regular and adequate availability of cheap and reliable seeds should be ensured.

It is worth mentioning that a few days ago the Agriculture Minister had announced that he would hold a meeting with the farmers every week to understand their problems and try to solve them. In the meeting held yesterday,

the Agriculture Minister assured all possible support from the government to meet the various demands put forth by the farmers and also directed the team of concerned officers of his department to immediately start working on the suggestions given by the delegation.

The Agriculture Minister assured that the government will leave no stone unturned for the welfare of the farmers.

This first meeting is the beginning of an open dialogue between the farming community and the government, which aims to address the challenges and problems faced by the farmers and the agriculture sector.

The Agriculture Minister informed about the various steps taken in the interest of farmers so far during the third term of the present government.

The farmers also wanted that the market intervention scheme for perishable agricultural products should be made more comprehensive and effective so that the producers do not suffer losses.

The farmers also urged for amendments in the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi and ensuring the system of uninterrupted and uncontrolled export of agricultural products from the country.

A demand was also made to curb the excessive import of certain agricultural commodities from abroad.
