Final production estimates of major crops released for 2023-24 season

New Delhi. The Union Agriculture Ministry has released the final estimates of production of major crops for the entire marketing season of 2023-24. Under this, the production of rice, wheat, total food grains and mustard in the country is expected to jump to new record levels.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, during the 2023-24 season, the gross production of food grains increased to 3322.98 lakh tonnes, which is 26.11 lakh tonnes more than the production of 3296.87 lakh tonnes in the 2022-23 season.
Under this, especially rice, wheat and Shri Anna were produced brilliantly. As compared to 2022-23 season,
during 2023-24 season, domestic production of rice increased by 20.70 lakh tons from 1357.55 lakh tons to 1378.25 lakh tons,
wheat production jumped by 27.38 lakh tons from 1105.54 lakh tons to 1132.92 lakh tons and production of Shri Anna improved from 173.21 lakh tons to a record level of 175.72 lakh tons. Apart from this,
during the 2023-24 season, a total of 569.36 lakh tons of nutri-food grains / coarse grains, 242.46 lakh tons of pulses and 396.69 lakh tons of oilseeds have been estimated to be produced in the country along with 376.65 lakh tons of maize.
Among pulses, the production of tur has been estimated at 34.17 lakh tonnes and gram at 110.39 lakh tonnes,
while among oilseeds, the production of groundnut has been estimated at 101.80 lakh tonnes, soybean at 130.62 lakh tonnes and mustard-rapeseed at 132.59 lakh tonnes.
In the category of cash or commercial crops, the production of sugarcane is expected to be 4531.58 lakh tonnes and cotton at 325.22 lakh bales (each bale of 170 kg). The production of jute-mesta has been estimated at 96.92 lakh bales (each bale of 180 kg).
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, there was a drought situation in Maharashtra and southern states during 2023-24, while there was a lack of rain in many states for a long time in the month of August.
Rajasthan was also included in this. This affected the production of Rabi crops. Overall, it will affect the crops of pulses, coarse grains, soybean and cotton.
