Food Inflation at 6-Year Low
★ June 2025 records the lowest food inflation since February 2019
★ Wheat inflation in June stood at 5.44%, down from 6.43% in May.
★ Inflation in mustard oil and refined oil was 18.28% and 23.55% respectively, mainly due to rising global prices.
★ Pulses inflation declined for the fifth consecutive month and fell by 11.76% in June.
★ In August 2024, inflation in pulses had surged to as high as 113%.
★ Prices of tur (arhar) dal dropped by 25.11%.
★ Inflation in spices continues to decline since September 2024; in June, it was down by 3.03%. Jeera (cumin) prices fell by 16%.

★ But a key question arises, as inflation continues to decline year-on-year, should restrictions on wheat and pulses be lifted?
★ Recently, DGMA Vice President Gaurav Gupta wrote an open letter advocating for the removal of such restrictions.
★ Another aspect of declining food inflation is that lower food prices directly impact farmers' incomes, raising concerns about their profitability and financial well-being.
