Increase in gram sowing as well as imports; lentil sowing decreased, imports increased
Pulse Market Update
Gram Imports: India imported 82,481 tonnes of gram in October, the highest since 2017.
Canadian Exports: Canada exported 594,514 tonnes of peas and lentils to India in the first three months of the 2024-25 marketing year.
Duty-Free Imports: India extended duty-free imports for yellow peas till February 2025 and approved imports of lentils, gram, urad, and tuvar until March 31, 2025, with possible extensions.
Sowing Updates
Total Pulses: Sowing at 125.64 lakh hectares, 1% lower than last year.
Gram: Increased by 1.9% to 86 lakh hectares (last year: 84.42 lakh hectares).
Lentils: Decreased by 4% to 17.06 lakh hectares (last year: 17.76 lakh hectares).
Outlook: The final sowing area for pulses may reach 135 lakh hectares, lower than last year’s 137.39 lakh hectares.
