New Delhi. The production and use of food grains, especially rice and wheat, is increasing rapidly in India, due to which it can play an important role in the global grain market during the next decade.

The OEPD-FAO Global Agricultural Outlook 2025-2034 report states that although India will increase wheat production during this period, it may have to import it from abroad due to demand and consumption being more than that.

According to the report, India's contribution in the total increase in global wheat production by the year 2034 is likely to be around 30 percent because not only will the sowing area increase here but the average yield rate will also improve.

The government is laying special emphasis on self-reliance measures. Apart from this, India will overtake China in rice production and reach the first position.

India's contribution in the gross increase in global rice production is expected to be up to 41 percent. But on the other hand, due to the rapidly growing population, its use in India will continue to increase regularly and by the year 2033-34, it can become a net importer of it.

According to the report, the production, domestic use and export of Indian corn are expected to continue to increase regularly during the period under review. Its consumption in ethanol production can increase rapidly.

Government policy and global market conditions will remain favorable for this. The Government of India has completely freed the commercial export of all categories and varieties of rice from all restrictions, which will further strengthen its position as the world's leading rice exporting country.

India has remained the largest exporter of rice in the world for the last 14-15 years and its dominance in the international export market will remain intact in the coming years as well.
