Dhaka. In the 50 thousand ton rice import tender issued by Bangladesh's government grain procurement agency, the offer price for Indian rice was the lowest or attractive and hence India is hopeful of getting this tender.

Bids or offers were to be submitted under this tender by 5 November 2024. In this, the offer price of Indian origin rice was estimated at $ 477 per ton, which also includes transportation (shipment) costs.

According to official sources, all the offers are still being considered and no rice has been purchased at the moment. It is understood that the lowest offer price is from a leading Indian company.

Under this tender, offer price was invited for non-Basmati Sela rice in CIF liner out term. This also included the cost of unloading the goods from the ship at the port.

This rice is to be shipped to Chittagong and Mongla ports of Bangladesh. Many other companies had participated in this tender for importing 50 thousand tons of rice, whose offer price ranged from $ 477.77 to $ 499.77 per ton. Apart from India, rice of Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar origin was offered in it.

It is worth mentioning that this time due to storms, heavy rains and severe floods, paddy crop equivalent to about 11 lakh tons of rice was destroyed in Bangladesh.

Due to this, there is a possibility of a decrease in the supply and availability of rice there, while the price has started increasing.

In view of this, the Bangladesh government has decided to order 5 lakh tons of rice on its own level and at the same time has also reduced the import duty heavily to encourage private traders to import rice.

Since Indian Sela rice has now become more competitive because the government has made it duty free, therefore, its excellent export is expected in Bangladesh.
