Mumbai. An international financial services firm has projected India's sugar production to reach 32.3 million tons in the 2025-26 season, stating that the country's sugarcane crushing and sugar production process will continue for a longer period.
Sugar production is expected to increase rapidly, particularly in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, the financial services firm has reduced its estimate of global sugar surplus production for the current 2025-26 marketing season by 0.8 million tons to 2.9 million tons. This is primarily due to a reduction of more than 1 million tons in Brazil's total estimated sugar production.
According to the firm, a good period of rainfall in Brazil's central southern region until March is essential for a good sugarcane supply. It is worth noting that approximately 90 percent of the sugar production in this Latin American country occurs in the central southern region. Brazil is the world's largest producer and exporter of sugar. The new sugarcane crushing season there will begin in April.
Sugar production is projected to increase in India, Thailand, and China for the current 2025-26 season. The firm estimates sugar production at 10.5 million tons in Thailand, 11.5 million tons in China, and 16.8 million tons in the European Union (including the UK).
