International Corn Markets
The international corn markets are seeing some notable developments based on the latest USDA and export data:
Private Export Sales:
The USDA reported private export sales of 132,000 metric tons (MT) of corn to unknown destinations for the 2024/25 marketing year. This indicates continued demand for U.S. corn in global markets.
Weekly Export Inspections:
A total of 1.123 million metric tons (MMT), or 44.21 million bushels, of corn was shipped during the week ending December 19.
This figure reflects an 8.51% decrease from the same week last year and a 1.66% decline from the previous week.
Japan and Mexico remain significant buyers, with shipments of 319,352 MT and 265,876 MT, respectively.
Cumulative Shipments:
Total shipments for the marketing year, starting September 1, stand at 14.436 MMT (568.3 million bushels).
This represents a 26.84% increase compared to the same point last year, signaling a robust recovery in export volumes for U.S. corn.
The year-over-year growth in cumulative shipments highlights strong export demand, despite weekly fluctuations. Japan and Mexico's consistent import levels also reinforce their importance as key markets for U.S. corn exports. However, the recent dip in weekly shipments suggests potential challenges, such as logistical issues or variable international demand.
