The Friday Commitment of Traders report showed speculators added 31,486 contracts to their net short position in CBOT wheat futures and options, bringing the total to 121,415 contracts — the largest since May 2023.
In Kansas City wheat (KC wheat), managed money added 10,645 contracts, taking their record net short to 67,269 contracts.
USDA’s export sales data showed total wheat export commitments at 21.555 MMT as the marketing year nears its final month. This is a 4-year high and accounts for 97% of the USDA forecast, though still behind the 104% average for this point in the year.
South Korean mills purchased 35,800 metric tons of wheat from the U.S. overnight.
French soft wheat crop ratings held steady at 74% good/excellent, according to FranceAgriMer, unchanged from the previous week.
