Kabuli Chickpea Crop in Good Condition in Canada

Winnipeg: The Kabuli chickpea crop is in excellent condition across Canada's two leading producing provinces, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Early harvesting indicates yields exceeding average levels, with productivity reaching up to 26 bushels per acre in some areas.

Although production is projected to decline this year—both in Canada and globally—prices are expected to remain relatively stable due to substantial carryover stocks. Significant stocks of Kabuli chickpeas are also available in India, Pakistan, and Turkey.

Prices have softened slightly following the start of the new crop harvest in Canada and the US. However, importer interest in large-sized, bold-grain Kabuli chickpeas remains strong, helping to maintain price stability. Lower prices for feed and sample-grade stock are also exerting downward pressure on market rates.

Exports of Kabuli chickpeas from Canada saw a significant increase in June compared to May. With limited production of *desi* (brown) chickpeas expected in Australia this season, market competition is likely to be minimal. Importing nations have been sourcing substantial quantities of Kabuli chickpeas over the past few months.
