Bangalore. A splendid production is expected this time in Karnataka, an important agricultural producing state of South India, due to good sowing of Kharif crops and favourable weather and monsoon conditions.

This includes Arhar (Tuvar), Urad, Moong, coarse grains etc. Due to good rains at the right time, there has been a huge increase in the sowing area of non-cereal crops and pulses in the state this time and the progress of crops is also happening satisfactorily.

According to the data of the State Agriculture Department, during the current year, the total production area of food grain crops in Karnataka has increased by 8.60 lakh hectares as compared to last year and reached 51.31 lakh hectares.

This includes an area of cereal crops in 29.43 lakh hectares and pulse crops in 21.87 lakh hectares. The area of cereal crops has also gone beyond the normal average area of 26.44 lakh hectares.

Apart from this, oilseed crops have been sown in 9.80 lakh hectares in Karnataka and the production from this has been estimated to be 9.87 lakh tonnes.

The average five-year production area of food grains in the Kharif season in Karnataka has been estimated at 44.42 lakh hectares.

The Agriculture Department has estimated the production of 97.32 lakh tonnes of grains and 14.71 lakh tonnes of pulses in the state during the current Kharif season.

Farmers and officials of the Agriculture Department hope that during the coming weeks, there will be neither very heavy rains nor severe floods in any part of the state,

due to which the possibility of damage to Kharif crops will be negligible. Although there is information of partial damage to Kharif crops due to heavy rains and waterlogging in the fields in districts like Belagavi, Bagalkot, Shivamogga and Haveri,

but the condition of the crop in other districts of the state is very good and production is expected to increase there.

Farmers worried about last year's drought-affected production are expected to get a lot of relief from the excellent yield this time.

This time the monsoon rains have been good and the reservoirs are also full, due to which the production of Rabi and Zaid seasons is also expected to be better.
