Lentil prices continue to decline due to selling by NAFED and importers; weak demand exerts pressure on the market.

Lentil prices remain on a downward trend, driven by increased selling pressure from NAFED and importers in the domestic market, coupled with weak demand from pulse mills. Market sentiment remains subdued due to the ample availability of imported lentils and limited buying interest.

A vessel carrying approximately 59,000 tonnes of pulses from Canada arrived at Mundra Port on October 21, 2026; the cargo includes about 56,000 tonnes of lentils and 3,000 tonnes of peas. The arrival of this shipment has ensured a steady supply of imported lentils at the port, further intensifying pressure on prices.

Meanwhile, demand for split lentils (dal) remains weak, keeping procurement by pulse mills limited. With NAFED and importers actively selling, the market lacks sufficient demand-side support. Under these circumstances, it appears unlikely that the lentil market will see any sustained upward momentum in the near term. Future price trends will depend on demand from pulse mills, the pace of sales of imported stock, and the volume of inventory available in the domestic market.
