Madhya Pradesh again became the largest producer of soybean

Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh has regained the status of 'Soybean State' while its closest rival - Maharashtra again went to second place.
According to the available data, Madhya Pradesh was first in soybean production in the 2023-24 season, Maharashtra second and Rajasthan third with a huge margin.
According to the Union Agriculture Ministry, during the 2023-24 season, Madhya Pradesh produced 54.70 lakh tonnes of soybean and thus its share in the total national production was recorded at 41.92 percent.
During the same period, Maharashtra produced 52.30 lakh tonnes of soybean and its contribution to the gross national production was 40.01 percent.
Although Rajasthan remained at the third position as before where 11.70 lakh tonnes or 8.96 percent of soybean was produced, but its total production was much higher than Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
It is noteworthy that in the previous two years i.e. in the 2022-23 and 2021-22 seasons, Maharashtra had become the number one soybean producer state in the country by overtaking Madhya Pradesh.
During the 2022-23 season, soybean production in Maharashtra increased to 54.70 lakh tonnes (42.12 percent) while Madhya Pradesh was.
Earlier, in the 2021-22 season, soybean production in Maharashtra jumped sharply to a peak of 62 lakh tonnes (48.7 percent) while production in Madhya Pradesh declined to 46.10 lakh tonnes (35.78 percent).
But in the 2020-21 season, 51.50 lakh tonnes of soybean was produced in Madhya Pradesh and 46 lakh tonnes in Maharashtra. There is fierce competition between the two states.
