Most Food Commodity Prices Drop Below MSP

New Delhi. Prices of most food commodities have fallen below the minimum support price (MSP) due to increased supply and availability of new Kharif crops and weak demand, but prices of Rabi crops like wheat, mustard, barley, and sesame remain elevated.
On November 5, 2025, the price of wheat in Shahjahanpur was recorded at ₹2,480 per quintal, ₹55 above the MSP of ₹2,425 per quintal.
Similarly, the price of barley in Jodhpur was ₹2,800 per quintal, ₹820 above the support price of ₹1,980 per quintal.
The minimum support price for mustard is ₹5,950 per quintal, but its wholesale market price in Bharatpur (Rajasthan) was recorded ₹850 higher, at ₹6,800 per quintal.
The market price of sesame seeds jumped to Rs 15,000 per quintal in the Rajkot market, which was Rs 5,154 more than its MSP of Rs 9,846 per quintal. The remaining commodities remained below the MSP.
Food commodities whose prices were below the government support price included pulses like gram, urad, tuvar, mung, and lentils, oilseeds like peanuts and soybeans, and coarse grains like millet, maize, and sorghum.
Among pulses, the price of gram fell to Rs 5,500 per quintal in Bikaner, the price of urad in Latur was Rs 6,400, the price of tuvar in Latur was Rs 7,275, the price of mung bean was Rs 8,200 in Merta City, and the price of lentil was Rs 6,600 per quintal in Ganjbasoda.
It is noteworthy that the minimum support price for gram is Rs 5650 per quintal, for urad Rs 7800, for tuvar Rs 8000, for mung Rs 8768, and for lentils Rs 6700 per quintal.
Among coarse grains, the price of millet remained at Rs 2700 per quintal in Jalna, the price of maize Rs 2200 per quintal in Gulab Bagh, and the price of sorghum (hybrid) Rs 1700 per quintal in Bagalkot.
The government has fixed the minimum support price for millet at Rs 2775 per quintal, for maize Rs 2400 per quintal, and for sorghum (hybrid) Rs 3699 per quintal.
Among oilseeds, the support price for peanuts is Rs 7263 per quintal and for soybeans Rs 5328 per quintal. Peanuts were recorded at Rs 4500 in Rajkot and soybeans at Rs 4460 per quintal in Dewas.
