News Capsule: Canadian Pulse Market
Peas
★ The Canadian pea market is closely watching the meetings scheduled this week between China and Canada. There is some hope for positive developments, but the situation remains uncertain. If China reduces the 100 percent tariff, a modest improvement in prices could follow. However, supplies remain heavy in the current marketing year.
★ Yellow peas are currently priced at USD 6.75–7.00 per bushel (picked up).
★ Green peas are trading around USD 10.00 per bushel.
★ Maple peas are indicated in the range of USD 9.50–11.00 per bushel, depending on variety.

Kabuli Chickpeas
★ Chickpea trades are moving slowly this week, though buyer interest has increased slightly. Prices are largely unchanged, but buyers are showing preference for lots with a higher proportion of 9 mm sizing.
★ For February–March delivery, #2 Kabuli chickpeas are quoted at around USD 0.26 per pound (FOB farm). If the lot contains 40 percent or more 9 mm size, an additional 1 cent per pound can be expected.
★ Feed and sample quality markets remain steady in the USD 0.08–0.15 per pound range.
★ No new-crop bids have been announced yet, but chickpea acreage is expected to remain strong next year.

Lentils
★ There has been no major new development in the lentil market following the Western Canadian Crop Production Show, and prices remain largely unchanged.
★ Spot #2 red lentils are trading up to 23 cents per pound delivered.
★ Small green lentils of #1 quality are being bid around 20 cents per pound.
★ Some buyers are showing interest in #2 small green lentils at 17 cents per pound, though the buying interest is limited.
★ Large green lentils for #2 specification are quoted as high as 27 cents per pound delivered, though some buyers are bidding 1–2 cents lower.
★ January–February shipping slots are already booked.
★ Overall, with ample global supplies, any market recovery is expected to be slow unless a major supply-side disruption occurs.
