News Capsule: Government allocation for procurement of Kharif pulses and oilseeds
★ The central government has approved a procurement plan worth over ₹15,000 crore for pulses and oilseeds such as moong (green gram), urad (black gram), tur (pigeon pea), and soybean. The approval covers the Kharif 2025–26 season in Telangana, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh.
★ In Madhya Pradesh, procurement will take place under the Price Difference Payment Scheme (PDPS), with 22.21 lakh tonnes of soybean targeted and an expenditure of ₹1,775 crore. Farmers are expected to receive an average differential payment of about ₹800 per quintal.
★ In Maharashtra, procurement has been approved for 33,000 tonnes of moong, 3.25 lakh tonnes of urad, and 18.50 lakh tonnes of soybean. Telangana will see procurement of 4,430 tonnes of moong, while Odisha will cover 18,470 tonnes of tur.
★ Currently, mandi prices across the country remain well below the MSP, which may lead to an increase in government procurement. However, once the procured stock is later released into the market, traders may face price pressure. For now, the start of MSP-based procurement could provide some short-term price support.
