Farmers in Gujarat Must Register for Cotton Sale by March 15
Gandhinagar: The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has started government procurement of cotton in Gujarat at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to ensure fair prices for farmers. Farmers who want to sell their cotton must register on the e-market portal of CCI through authorized purchase centers by March 15, 2025.
Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Cotton (2024-25 Season):
- Medium Fiber Cotton: ₹7,121 per quintal
- Long Fiber Cotton: ₹7,521 per quintal
Purchase Centers Set Up Across Gujarat:
To facilitate farmers, CCI has opened multiple procurement centers in major cotton-producing districts.
- Ahmedabad Zone: Centers in Bahadurpur, Bavla, Kodeli, Chanasma, Dabhoi, Dahegam, Dhandhuka, Dholka, Handod, Harij, Himmatnagar, Idar, Jadar, Kalediya, Kapadbhanj, Karjan, Kosindra, Mansa, Naswadi, Valia, Vijapur, Visnagar, Palej, Pavijetpur, Samalaya, etc.
- Rajkot Division: Several purchase centers have also been set up here.
Important Details for Farmers:
- Cotton will only be purchased from registered farmers.
- Farmers facing registration or selling difficulties should contact CCI’s helpline.
- Government procurement will continue as long as cotton arrives at purchase centers.
Cotton Production in Gujarat:
- Cultivation Area (2024-25): 26.80 lakh hectares
- Production Growth:
- 2022-23: 87.95 lakh bales
- 2023-24: 90.57 lakh bales
- Yield Improvement:
- 2022-23: 559 kg per hectare
- 2023-24: 602 kg per hectare
Despite challenges from natural disasters in some areas, Gujarat remains a key cotton-producing state, competing closely with Maharashtra. Farmers are urged to complete their registration on time to benefit from MSP-based procurement.
