Hyderabad: In Telangana, one of the leading rice-producing states in South India, the government has procured 70.82 lakh tonnes of paddy at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) during the current Kharif marketing season of 2025-26. Farmers have already been paid over Rs. 16,900 crore for this procurement.
The Telangana Civil Supplies Minister stated that the previous record for paddy procurement in the state was 70.20 lakh tonnes during the 2020-21 Kharif marketing season, but the 2025-26 season's procurement has surpassed that, reaching an all-time high.
This has resulted in significant income for the state's farmers. Calling this a milestone in the history of paddy procurement, the Civil Supplies Minister said that the total procurement amounted to 38.57 lakh tonnes.
According to official sources, paddy production in Telangana increased to nearly 148 lakh tonnes during the 2025-26 season.
The total value of the paddy procured at the Minimum Support Price is estimated at Rs. 16,900 crore, of which approximately Rs. 16,000 crore has already been paid, and the remaining amount will be disbursed soon.
It is noteworthy that Telangana had announced an additional bonus of Rs. 500 per quintal above the Minimum Support Price for fine varieties of paddy, and Rs. 1425 crore has already been paid to farmers under this scheme. Approximately 8500 procurement centers were opened across Telangana for this year's paddy procurement.
