There is a possibility of a good increase in the production of groundnut and soybean.

New Delhi. Due to better sowing and favorable weather, there is a possibility of a good increase in the production of groundnut and soybean during the current Kharif marketing season, but the production of castor and nigerseed is likely to decrease.

The production of sesame and sunflower may remain almost equal to last year. The preparation and harvesting of crops has already started.

The Union Agriculture Ministry has released the first advance production estimate of Kharif oilseed crops. Compared to last year, its total production has been estimated to increase by 15.83 lakh tons from 241.62 lakh tons to 257.45 lakh tons this year.

Under this, especially the production of groundnut is expected to jump by 17 lakh tons from 86.60 lakh tons to 103.60 lakh tons,

soybean production is expected to increase by 2.98 lakh tons from 130.62 lakh tons to 133.60 lakh tons and sesame production is expected to improve by 3 thousand tons from 3.95 lakh tons to 3.98 lakh tons,

while sunflower production is expected to be 60 thousand tons which is the same as last year. On the other hand,

castor production is expected to decrease by 406 lakh tons from last year's 19.59 lakh tons to 15.53 lakh tons this time and nigerseed production is expected to decrease by 13 thousand tons from 27 thousand tons to 14 thousand tons.

There has been a lot of change in the production figures in Gujarat, the most prominent producer of groundnut and castor. The condition of soybean crop in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra remained almost normal.
