Mumbai. Solvent Extractors Association of India (C), a leading organization of the indigenous vegetable oil industry and trade sector, has urged the Central Government to lift the ban on the export of de-oiled rice bran (DO RB) as soon as possible.
In a letter sent to the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Minister of Food Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution and Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, the association has said that there is sufficient stock of paddy-rice in the domestic division and there is a strong arrival of Kharif paddy.
Due to this, the supply and availability of rice bran and its extraction is likely to increase continuously. But the ban imposed on the export of DORB is causing great difficulty to the millers and exporters, so it should be abolished with immediate effect.
The export of de-oiled rice bran has been banned since 28 July 2023. Its time limit was continuously extended and now it has been extended till 31 January 2025. This decision of the government is likely to have a profound adverse effect on various sectors.
According to the association, the production of oil mill in the country is more than domestic use. The export of DORB was less than 10 percent of its total production but the government banned it as well.
Now, in view of the better supply and availability situation and weak market price, there is a dire need to remove it.
