Peanut prices soften due to sluggish business
New Delhi. Although there was no unexpected increase in the arrival of peanuts in the markets of major producing states during the week of April 26 to May 2, but still a slight decline in prices was recorded due to weak demand from traders and millers.
Arrivals
In Rajkot, Gujarat, 6000 bags of peanuts arrived on April 26, which increased to 11,000 bags on April 28 and 15,000 bags on April 29, but due to no upward trend in prices, the arrivals decreased to 6000 bags on April 30 and fell to 3000 bags on May 1. There the price of peanuts remained at the previous level of Rs 6000/8250 per quintal.

But the price of peanuts in Solapur, Maharashtra fell by Rs 250 to Rs 6500 per quintal. Similarly, there was a fall of Rs. 100 each in Jhansi and Mauranipur of Uttar Pradesh, but due to some trading at lower prices in Mahoba, the price improved by Rs. 100 and reached Rs. 4400/4900 per quintal. An average daily arrival of 1000-2000 bags of peanuts was recorded in different mandis of Uttar Pradesh.
Groundnut seeds
There was limited trading in peeled groundnut seeds too, due to which its price remained stable or soft in most of the mandis. The demand from crushing-processing mills as well as exporters also remained weak. In Nagpur, Maharashtra, the price of 50/60 count and 60/70 count seeds fell by Rs. 100 each per quintal, while in other mandis, the prices remained stable amid negligible trading.
Groundnut Oil
Loose groundnut oil witnessed a decline of Rs. 10-25 per 10 kg due to weak demand from traders/stockists. The price of groundnut oil in Rajkot, Gondal, Junagadh and Jamnagar in Gujarat fell by Rs. 25 to Rs. 1275 per 10 kg. Similarly, the price of groundnut oil declined by Rs. 10-20 in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bikaner, Newai/Tonk, Chennai and Hyderabad. The price of branded groundnut oil remained stable in Kota, while no significant fluctuation was seen in the prices of filtered oil in Jaipur and Newai due to limited trading. Groundnut DOC witnessed a mixed trend and prices declined by Rs. 200-300 to Rs. 500.
