Kandla. On October 28, 2025, a total of 566,857 tonnes (approximately 5.66 lakh tonnes) of pulses imported from abroad were in stock at Kandla, Mundra, and Hazira, the major ports of Gujarat's western state. This included 275,111 tonnes of yellow peas, 234,839 tonnes of desi gram, and 56,907 tonnes of lentils.
According to data compiled by iGrain India, a total of 3.11 lakh tonnes of pulses were in stock at Kandla port on October 28, which included 1.43 lakh tonnes of chickpeas, 1.29 lakh tonnes of peas, and 38,190 tonnes of lentils.
Similarly, Mundra Port had a stock of 91,582 tons of chickpeas, 89,945 tons of peas, and 11,936 tons of lentils, totaling 1.93 lakh tons of pulses. Hazira Port also had a stock of 56,013 tons of peas and 5,781 tons of lentils, totaling 61,794 tons of pulses. There is no stock of chickpeas at Hazira Port.
Yellow peas are imported into India primarily from Canada and Russia, while lentils are imported from Canada and Australia, and Desi chickpeas from Australia and Africa.
A basic customs duty of 10 percent each is imposed on the import of lentils and Desi chickpeas, while the import of yellow peas is duty-free until March 31, 2026.
Due to the availability and supply situation in the domestic market, and stable or soft prices, the import of the above pulses has slowed significantly compared to last year, and limited quantities are being imported.
Prices of these pulses have also declined in the global market. Sowing of these three pulses has already begun in India, and new arrivals will begin in the first quarter of next year.
