Pune. The Maharashtra government has denied sugarcane crushing licenses for the current 2025-26 marketing season to 22 sugar mills for failing to comply with the prescribed regulations.

The state government had issued clear guidelines that sugar mills that do not fully comply with the regulations should not be allowed to begin crushing sugarcane.

It is noteworthy that 170 sugar mills in Maharashtra have already received licenses and have begun crushing sugarcane, but the licenses of the remaining 22 units are still pending.

This includes 12 cooperative and 10 private sugar mills. The Maharashtra Sugar Commissioner's Office has refused to issue licenses to these units because they have not complied with the mandatory regulations and conditions.

The Maharashtra government had set certain conditions for issuing licenses. The first condition is that no sugar mill should have any outstanding dues to sugarcane farmers and the farmers should have been paid the full Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for the previous season's sugarcane.

Furthermore, each sugar mill is required to contribute its share to the Sugarcane Cutter Welfare Board, and the mills will also have to deposit the required amount in the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

According to informed sources, of the 22 sugar mills that have not been issued licenses, eight are located in the Solapur division, three each in Kolhapur and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, two each in Pune and Nagpur, and one each in Amravati and Ahilya Nagar districts.
