Jaipur. The time has come for sowing mustard, the most important oilseed of the Rabi season, while due to the off season of supply of the previous crop, its arrival in the markets has started decreasing despite the high market price.
Data compiled by the Managing Director of Marudhar Trading Agency, a trusted and popular establishment located in the grain market of Chandpole in the Pink City Jaipur,
shows that a total of 90 lakh tonnes of mustard arrived at the national level during the first seven months of the current Rabi marketing season i.e. from March to September 2024. Under this,
15.50 lakh tonnes of mustard is expected to arrive in the market premises in March, 15 lakh tonnes in April, 11 lakh tonnes in May, 9 lakh tonnes in June, 8.50 lakh tonnes in July,
6 lakh tonnes in August and 5 lakh tonnes in September. Apart from this, 10 thousand tons of mustard arrived at government purchase centers in March, 13.80 lakh tons in April, 5.60 lakh tons in May and 50 thousand tons in June which was purchased by agencies like NAFED and HAFED.
According to Marudhar Trading Agency, around 74 lakh tons of mustard was crushed during the period under review.
Under this, it is estimated that 13 lakh tons of mustard will be crushed in March, 12.50 lakh tons in April, 10 lakh tons in May, 10 lakh tons in June, 9 lakh tons in July, 10 lakh tons in August and 9.50 lakh tons in September.

53 lakh tonnes in Rajasthan, 12 lakh tonnes in Punjab-Haryana, 13 lakh tonnes in Madhya Pradesh, 5 lakh tonnes in Gujarat and 19 lakh tonnes in other states including Bengal-Bihar.
The previous stock was 12 lakh tonnes, which brought the total availability to 127 lakh tonnes, but 7 lakh tonnes of this was consumed in February 2024, hence a stock of 120 lakh tonnes of mustard was estimated for the marketing season starting from March 1.
