New Delhi. On one hand, the central government is emphasizing on increasing the production of cereal crops - rice, wheat and coarse grains to ensure food security, on the other hand, it is also trying to control the huge import of pulses and edible oils from foreign countries and the huge expenditure incurred on it.
New policies and schemes are being implemented to increase the production of pulses and oilseeds crops in the country so that farmers get a good opportunity and encouragement to increase its sowing and production.
The season of cultivation of Rabi crops has started and the government wants that there should be a good interest in the cultivation of wheat, gram, lentil, mustard and barley.
It is necessary to increase the production of all these crops because it is necessary to ensure internal food security and reduce dependence on imports. India remains the largest importer of pulses and edible oils in the world.
The government intends to provide attractive and profitable prices to farmers so that they are not forced to sell their produce at throw-away prices. For this, not only is the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of various crops being regularly increased, but efforts are also being made to increase procurement from farmers at the support price.
This time, efforts are also being made to increase procurement from farmers at the MSP of Rabi crops. This time the MSP of Rabi crops is going to increase again. It is true that the cost of cultivation of crops is increasing and hence farmers need a good increase in MSP.
Due to high market prices, the sowing area of wheat, gram and mustard is expected to increase somewhat in the current Rabi season and if its support price is increased well, farmers will get additional incentive to increase the area.
The harvesting and preparation of Kharif crops has started gaining momentum, which is paving the way for sowing of Rabi crops. Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Rabi crops is going to be announced soon.
