New Delhi. The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved some important proposals in its meeting on October 3. The Agriculture Ministry has integrated 18 such schemes and included them in two cadres. All these schemes are sponsored by the Center. An amount of Rs 1,01,321 crore was approved for this. Apart from this, the Cabinet Committee also approved the launch of National Oilseeds Mission with an amount of Rs 10,103 crores. This was being discussed for a long time, which has now got the green signal from the government.
Those 18 schemes have been merged in two basic cadres - Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana and Krishi Unnati Yojana. This will give more flexibility in allocating funds to the states and the way will be cleared for reallocation of funds from one section to another, which will be based on its need.
A total amount of Rs 1,01,321 crore has been provisioned for the schemes of these two categories, in which the contribution of the Central Government has been fixed at Rs 69,088.98 crore and the contribution of the state governments has been fixed at Rs 32,232.63 crore.
As far as the National Oilseeds Mission is concerned, it will be implemented during seven years, the period of which will be between the financial year 2024-25 to 2030-31. Its objective is to increase the domestic production of oilseed crops from 390 lakh tonnes in the 2022-23 season to 697 lakh tonnes by 2030-31. Under this, an attempt will be made to increase the average productivity of oilseed crops from the current level of 1353 kg per hectare to 2112 kg per hectare in the next seven years. Similarly, an attempt will be made to increase the production of edible oils from indigenous sources from 127 lakh tonnes to 202 lakh tonnes in the period under review. Through this mission, a target has been set to start cultivation of oilseed crops in 40 lakh hectares of additional land in the country. Under this, cultivation of oilseed crops will be encouraged in the fields which will be vacant after harvesting of paddy and potato crops. Along with this, inter-cropping farming system will be promoted so that sowing of oilseeds along with other crops in the same field will also be possible. Emphasis will also be laid on crop diversification scheme.
