New Delhi. Although there has been a good increase of 9.30 lakh hectares in sowing of pulse crops during Kharif season as compared to last year and its total area has increased from 119.28 lakh hectares to 128.58 lakh hectares, but due to the impact of floods and rains, there is doubt about corresponding increase in total production.
The campaign for sowing of pulse crops has ended. According to the latest data of the Union Agriculture Ministry, during the current Kharif season,
compared to last year, the production area of Arhar (Tuvar) increased from 40.74 lakh hectares to 46.55 lakh hectares,
the sowing area of moong jumped from 31.49 lakh hectares to 35.46 lakh hectares and the area of moth improved from 9.42 lakh hectares to 10.53 lakh hectares, but the area of Urad decreased from 32.60 lakh hectares to 30.73 lakh hectares.
Apart from this, the area of Kulthi improved from 43 thousand hectares to 54 thousand hectares and the sowing area of other pulses increased from 4.59 lakh hectares to 4.80 lakh hectares.
Madhya Pradesh is considered to be the most prominent producer of Urad. This time the monsoon rains have been very heavy there,
due to which there is a possibility of damage to the crop in some areas. Similarly, heavy rains and waterlogging in Rajasthan,
Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are likely to damage the moong and moth crops.
The arrival of early sown moong and urad crops is expected to start from next month but it seems difficult to increase production because the crop has already been damaged and the rainy season is still continuing.
As far as tuvar is concerned, its crop also suffered a little damage while the October-November season will prove to be very important for it.
