New Delhi. Urad crop was damaged due to heavy rains in the southwest monsoon and the threat of floods and waterlogging in some areas. The crop has suffered heavy damage in Karnataka's Yadgir, Kalaburgi, Bidar and Vijayapura districts.

Similarly, damage to crops is also being reported from some parts of Maharashtra. The condition of the crop is not good in some areas of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Due to lack of workers, the harvesting and preparation of the new crop is being hampered.

In the country's most prominent Urad producing state - Madhya Pradesh, there has been a significant decline in the sowing area of this important pulse crop during the current Kharif season.

According to the data of the Union Agriculture Ministry, the production area of Urad at the national level has declined from 32.60 lakh hectares last year to 30.73 lakh hectares this year.

Under this, the area of urad fell from 13.90 lakh hectares to 9.79 lakh hectares in Madhya Pradesh and from 3.18 lakh hectares to 2.98 lakh hectares in Rajasthan.

On the other hand, its area increased from 1.02 lakh hectares to 1.24 lakh hectares in Jharkhand, while 1.37 lakh hectares in Chhattisgarh and 83 thousand hectares in Gujarat were recorded, which was slightly more than last year.

A pulse miller says that due to excessive rain and waterlogging, there are signs of heavy damage to the crop in some parts of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, due to which there may be a decline of up to 30 percent in the production of urad at the national level,

while another analyst has expressed the possibility of 30-40 percent crop being damaged. This year, heavy rains are proving fatal for the urad crop in all the major producing states of the country.

In Uttar Pradesh, the urad crop has suffered more damage in the Bundelkhand division, while there has been limited damage in other areas.

Due to rain, the moisture content in urad grain has increased a lot, but now the situation is expected to gradually become normal as the weather clears.

I Grain India Director Rahul Chauhan says that the monsoon has started leaving and the crop will get relief due to good sunshine in the producing areas. One of the major reasons for the fall in the price of urad is the increase in its import.

According to an analyst, the demand for urad usually weakens after Diwali, so there may be limited increase in its market price. The market is expected to get some support due to the fall in domestic production.
