Australia exported 18 thousand tonnes of gram and more than 69 thousand tonnes of lentils in August

The latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) shows that in August 2024, 17,884 tonnes of gram and 69,328 tonnes of lentils were exported from Australia. 8037 tonnes of gram were exported to India and 2199 tonnes to Pakistan and 1966 tonnes to Nepal. Similarly, India was at the forefront in the purchase of lentils, which imported 86,143 tonnes from Australia, followed by Bangladesh with 14,146 tonnes and Pakistan with 7098 tonnes of lentils. In July, only 13,223 tonnes of gram was exported from Australia, which jumped 35 percent to 18 thousand tonnes in August.

According to ABS data, about 70 thousand tonnes of gram was exported from Australia during the June-August 2024 quarter. This included shipment of 39 thousand tons in June, 13 thousand tons in July and 18 thousand tons in August. During the quarter under review, 41,835 tons of gram were exported to India, 6296 tons to Nepal, 5557 tons to Bangladesh, 3860 tons to Pakistan, 3103 tons to Canada, 4856 tons to United Arab Emirates and 2423 tons to England. While the remaining quantity was shipped to other countries.

As far as lentils are concerned, a total of 3,24,995 tons were exported from Australia with 1,34,268 tons in June, 1,21,399 tons in July and 69,328 tons in August. Like gram, India imported lentils. Apart from this, in the quarter of June-August 2024, 81330 tonnes of lentils were exported from Australia to Bangladesh, 26,024 tonnes to Egypt, 16,870 tonnes to Nepal, 15,457 tonnes to Pakistan and 40,953 tonnes to Sri Lanka. The remaining lentil shipments were made to many other countries including the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain. The harvesting and preparation season for the new crop of gram and lentil is about to start in Australia.
