Warwickshire. Due to unfavourable weather conditions, the production performance of winter wheat and spring barley in various parts of Scotland during the current year is quite weak.

In some areas, the condition of the crop has become so bad that despite high market prices, farmers are struggling to recover their cost. However, the situation in the south-western part of Scotland was somewhat better than other areas.

In some areas, the crop could not grow properly due to excessive rain and lack of sunlight during winter. It kept raining even during the time of harvesting, due to which farmers had to spend a huge amount on barley, which increased the cost even more, while the production could not be obtained accordingly.

In comparison to last year, this time the crop was harvested after about 10 days. Farmers kept waiting for the weather to clear till the end.

The winter wheat crop was in very good condition in the initial phase and it seemed that farmers would get good income from it, but the weather in September-October was very bad compared to June and this caused worry and surprise to the farmers.

Due to the fall in production, there may be a need to import wheat and barley in Scotland, while farmers are sure to suffer huge financial losses. Difficulties of common consumers are also likely to increase.
