Black Pepper Prices Drop Due to Heavy Imports
★ India has been importing large quantities of black pepper from Sri Lanka, leading to a price drop of Rs. 20–25 per kg over the last 15 days.
★ Sri Lankan black pepper is available at Rs. 675–685 per kg, while Indian pepper is being quoted around Rs. 690–700 per kg.
★ International prices of Indian black pepper are around $8,650/ton, whereas Indonesian pepper is priced at $7,500/ton, Sri Lankan at $7,200/ton, Vietnamese at $7,100/ton, and Brazilian at $7,000/ton.
★ In 2023, India imported around 14,000 tonnes of black pepper, which is expected to rise to 24,000 tonnes in 2024.
★ India's black pepper production is estimated to reach 75,000 tonnes this year.
