Bran Export Approval Brings Cheer to Industry: Prices Surge Across India
After the government allowed the export of wheat bran, prices have surged sharply across the country, bringing much-needed relief to the roller flour mill industry, which had been struggling with heavy losses in recent months.
According to the latest data (as of October 10, 2025), wheat bran prices at key trading centers have increased by ₹100 to ₹190 per quintal within a week:
Jaipur: ₹2,000 + ₹100 = ₹2,100
Indore: ₹1,800 + ₹100 = ₹1,900
Shahjahanpur: ₹2,280 + ₹120 = ₹2,400
Kolkata: ₹2,300 + ₹190 = ₹2,490
Bengaluru: Stable at ₹2,441
Prices have also shown remarkable improvement over the past few months. Compared to July 2025, Kolkata prices are up by ₹390, Jaipur by ₹200, Shahjahanpur by ₹230, and Bengaluru by ₹236 per quintal.
During the export ban, domestic bran prices had fallen below cost levels, causing severe losses to flour mills. However, the export approval has revived demand and improved market sentiment.

Industry bodies such as the Roller Flour Millers Federation of India and the Wheat Product Promotion Society had long been urging the government to lift the export ban. Now that the restriction has been removed, optimism has returned to the industry.
