Lentils

2024-25:

Lentil exports are expected to rise sharply from 2023-24 to 2.1 million tonnes, with carry-out stocks also forecast to increase.

Average prices for all types and grades are expected to decline from the previous year’s record levels.

Large green lentil prices are expected to maintain a premium of C$505 per tonne over red lentils.

2025-26:

Area seeded is expected to decline slightly to 1.69 million hectares. This decrease is due to the sharp drop in green lentil prices during 2024-25.

Production is forecast to fall by 4% to 2.33 million tonnes, and total supply is expected to be 2.71 million tonnes.

Exports are expected to remain steady at 2.1 million tonnes.

Carry-out stocks are also forecast to remain steady at 305 thousand tonnes.

Due to higher global supply, average prices are expected to decline compared to 2024-25.

United States:

According to USDA, seeded area in 2025-26 may reach 1.1 million acres, which is 18% higher than in 2024-25.

Production is estimated to reach 500 thousand tonnes.
