Canada: Yellow Pea and Lentil Production Estimates (July 2025)
Yellow Peas
★ In 2025-26, yellow pea production is projected to increase by 75,000 tonnes to reach 3.2 million tonnes — 203,000 tonnes more than the previous year.
★ The harvested area is estimated at 1.39 million hectares, up 109,000 hectares from 2024-25. Average yield is expected to decline to 2.30 tonnes per hectare from 2.34 last year.
★ Exports are estimated at 2 million tonnes, up 350,000 tonnes from June's forecast but 300,000 tonnes lower than last year.
★ Domestic consumption is expected to be 670,000 tonnes — 58,000 tonnes higher than 2024-25.
★ Ending stocks are projected to decline to 975,000 tonnes, but still 550,000 tonnes more than the previous year.

Lentils
★ In 2025, lentil production is projected to rise by 125,000 tonnes to 2.45 million tonnes, which is 19,000 tonnes more than in 2024-25.
★ Harvested area is expected to increase to 1.75 million hectares — 303,000 hectares more than last year.
★ Yield is expected to decline from 1.44 to 1.40 tonnes per hectare.
★ Exports are forecast at 2.1 million tonnes, 100,000 tonnes higher than last year and unchanged from the June estimate.
★ Domestic consumption is expected at 300,000 tonnes (down 26,000 tonnes), and ending stocks are projected at 530,000 tonnes — 225,000 tonnes higher than June and 125,000 tonnes above last year.
★ The U.S. is also expected to produce 425,000 tonnes of lentils this year, with Canada being a major customer.

★ According to I-Grain India, the country’s imports of peas and lentils may decline in the 2025-26 financial year.
