Kochi. With the southwest monsoon season almost over, there is a possibility of some increase in the activity in the dry ginger market. The winter season is about to come in which the demand and consumption of this important spice often increases. At present, its business is not happening as expected, but still the market remains stable with some fluctuations in a certain range. Some festive demand is also expected for dry ginger. There was an increase in the season in the northeastern states at the beginning of the season, due to which the production of ginger and dry ginger is likely to be partially affected. There was good rain in South India, especially in Karnataka. There is a good inflow of ginger from there to Delhi and its price is being reported to be 60-65 rupees per kg. There was a time when the price of ginger jumped to a historical record level of 200-225 rupees per kg. The situation had become such that the producers had sold most of their stock, due to which there was a huge shortage of ginger for making dry ginger. Now the situation has changed. Currently, stockists are selling dry ginger in good quantity while buyers are showing less interest.
There is no adequate pressure of dry ginger supply in the local market yet, therefore, trade analysts believe that its prices may improve when buyers demand it. Producers and stockists do not have a huge stock of goods. Recently, the price of dry ginger was recorded at Rs. 32,500-33,000 per quintal. Some new dry ginger is arriving in Kerala but its price is said to be high. The price in Kerala is running at Rs. 320-340 per kg. The arrival of ginger and dry ginger from the Northeast region and especially from the Siliguri line is decreasing.
