Raipur: The Union Ministry of Agriculture has accepted the proposal sent by the Chhattisgarh government to ensure the procurement of pulses and oilseeds from farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP).
This clears the way for the procurement of pigeon pea (tur), black gram, green gram, soybean, and groundnut in the state. Although Chhattisgarh is not among the top producing states of pulses and oilseeds, government procurement will still provide significant relief to farmers.
The central government has sanctioned ₹425 crore for the procurement of the above-mentioned pulses and oilseeds from farmers at MSP in the state.
The procurement of these Kharif crops will be done by Markfed through cooperative societies. The arrival of new crops of black gram, green gram, soybean, and groundnut has already started in the state.
It is noteworthy that the Chhattisgarh government had sent a proposal to the central government for the procurement of a total of 1.22 lakh tonnes of pulses and oilseeds, combining both the Kharif and Rabi seasons.
Of this, approval has been given for the procurement of 50,000 tonnes. A proposal for the procurement of the same quantity was sent for the Kharif season. The remaining 72,000 tonnes are likely to be procured during the Rabi marketing season, for which sowing is currently underway.
The Union Ministry of Agriculture has currently approved the procurement of 25,530 tonnes of black gram, 21,330 tonnes of pigeon pea (tur), 4,210 tonnes of soybean, 4,210 tonnes of groundnut, and 240 tonnes of green gram in Chhattisgarh.
It is worth noting that for the 2025-26 season, the government has fixed the MSP for pigeon pea at ₹8,000 per quintal, green gram at ₹8,768 per quintal, black gram at ₹7,800 per quintal, and soybean at ₹5,328 per quintal.
