Coriander prices may depend on next sowing

Kota. The sowing season of coriander is near and farmers in all the three major producing states- Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have started the necessary preparations for its cultivation.
This time these states have received good rainfall during the southwest monsoon and there is sufficient moisture in the soil of the fields. After the departure of monsoon, the weather has become clear there.
This has made the conditions favorable for sowing coriander. Last year, when the price of cumin reached a record high,
the farmers of Gujarat had reduced the area of coriander cultivation and increased the area of cumin. This time, due to the price of cumin being at a normal level, there may be some increase in the sowing area of coriander there.
For the last few days, the price of coriander has remained almost stable with slight fluctuations in a certain range.
Due to less selling by the producers, there is limited arrival of coriander in the major markets, due to which the environment of strength in prices may remain to some extent.
This is expected to encourage producers to increase the acreage of coriander. It is believed that after the festive season, when the Lagnasara season begins, there may be some increase in the domestic demand for coriander, which will prove helpful in keeping the market strong.
On an average, 3000-3500 bags of coriander are arriving daily in Ramganj Mandi of Rajasthan and 500-700 bags in Baran Mandi.
The price of coriander in these mandis is being reported between Rs 6400 to Rs 7200 per quintal. The export performance of coriander was not seen to be encouraging.
During the first four months of the current financial year i.e. April-July 2024, only 21,075 tonnes of coriander could be exported from the country, which was much less than the shipment of 59,647 tonnes in the same period last year. Similarly,
its export income declined from Rs 476.34 crore to Rs 216.04 crore during the period under review. There will be limited stock of coriander when the arrival of its new goods will start in February-March 2025.
If there is good sowing, there will not be much possibility of increase in prices, but if farmers do not increase the sowing area of coriander by giving priority to the cultivation of wheat, gram and mustard, then the price may go up.
