According to USDA’s delayed Grain Crushing report, a total of 463.44 million bushels of corn were used for ethanol production in August. This was 1.2% higher than July but 3.36% lower than the same month last year.
CFTC data for the week of October 7 showed managed money holding a net short position of 141,966 contracts in corn futures and options, an increase of 6,656 contracts from the previous week.
The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange estimates that Argentina’s corn planting is 37.3% complete, up 0.7 percentage points on the week. This lags behind the same week last year. The crop is rated 79% in excellent to normal categories.
