ICE cotton futures saw Tuesday gains of 20 to 25 points across most contracts, while the delivery-month December contract rose 99 points. Crude oil futures dropped 73 cents per barrel on the day to $58.11, and the US dollar index slid $0.322 to $99.750.
Commitment of Traders data, still delayed due to the government shutdown, showed spec funds adding 5,017 contracts to their net short position in cotton futures and options as of October 14, bringing it to a record 81,343 contracts.
Export Sales data for the week ending October 9 reported cotton sales of 157,636 RB, below the prior week. Shipments were 139,250 RB, down 11.71% from the previous week.
The Seam’s November 24 online auction recorded sales of 6,094 bales at an average price of 61.47 cents/lb. The Cotlook A Index was unchanged on Monday the 21st at 74.10 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks were steady on November 24 at 20,344 bales. The Adjusted World Price (AWP) was updated last week to 50.80 cents/lb, down 103 points from the previous week, and is in effect through Thursday.
