On the Intercontinental Exchange, cotton futures closed Wednesday 3 to 12 points higher. Crude oil futures rose $2.74 per barrel to $65.07. The U.S. dollar index gained 0.570 points to 97.630.
According to analyst expectations ahead of the USDA Outlook Forum, cotton acreage this spring is projected at 9.2 million acres, down from 9.3 million acres last year. Production is expected to decline by 430,000 bales to 13.49 million bales.
The Seam reported sales of 8,501 bales on February 17 at an average price of 58.11 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index remained steady at 73.85 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks increased by 4,496 bales on February 17 to 110,014 bales. The Adjusted World Price was reduced last week to 49.39 cents per pound and remains effective through Thursday.
