ICE cotton futures saw late strength on Tuesday, with contracts up by 1 to 14 points in most front months. The U.S. dollar index rose by $0.162 to $98.480. Crude oil prices continued to climb, increasing by $3.26 to $99.63.
According to NASS's Crop Progress data, 16% of the U.S. cotton crop had been planted by April 26, 3 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average of 13%. GA (-1%), LA (-2%), SC (-3%), and VA (-13%) were behind the normal planting pace, while Texas had 20% of its cotton planted, matching the average.
On April 27, the Seam reported 2,800 bales sold at an average price of 73.91 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index was unchanged on Monday at 89.35 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks remained steady on April 27 at 165,681 bales. The Adjusted World Price rose by 365 points on Thursday afternoon, reaching 65.26 cents per pound.
