Decline in International Prices of Urad (Black Gram)
★ In May 2024, urad prices were around USD 1,200 per ton, but by March 2025, they had declined to the range of USD 840–960 per ton.
★ In July 2024, prices reached a seasonal high of USD 1,230 per ton for SQ quality urad from Myanmar to India.
★ However, prices have steadily declined since then. By January 2025, the price for FAQ quality urad from Myanmar to India dropped to USD 795 per ton—the lowest level of the season.
★ A slight recovery was seen in March 2025: urad imports from Brazil to India were priced at USD 960 per ton, and from Myanmar to Pakistan at USD 920 per ton.
★ During January–February 2025, import prices across all origins slipped to around USD 800 per ton.
★ Myanmar has seen a bumper urad crop this year and is exporting significant volumes, more than compensating for the decline in India's domestic production.
★ With increased imports, future availability is expected to remain strong, which could help keep prices under control.
