Diplomatic relations with Canada deteriorated - likely to affect trade relations

New Delhi. Diplomatic relations between India and Canada have deteriorated considerably. India has recalled its High Commissioner and some other officials from Canada and has asked the Canadian High Commissioner and Deputy High Commissioner,
besides six senior officials, to leave the country by 12 midnight on 17 October. This sourness in diplomatic relations is likely to affect trade relations as well. However, no clear indication has been given by both sides on this issue at present.
It is worth noting that Canada imports huge quantities of lentils and yellow peas from India and it remains the most important country supplying pulses to India. If trade relations deteriorate, difficulties may increase for both sides.
The Canadian Prime Minister had made baseless and unfounded allegations against India and asked the High Commissioner to leave the country, while the Indian Foreign Ministry summoned the Canadian High Commissioner and said that the statement and behavior of the Canadian Prime Minister is not acceptable and the Canadian government cannot be trusted.
After this, it was decided to call back the top officials of the High Commissions of both the countries. The Foreign Ministry told the Canadian High Commissioner that Justin Trudeau's government is promoting extremism, violence and separatism from India and in view of this,
the Indian government is free to take further steps. This clearly indicates that the Indian government may take some tough decisions in the near future.
The Canadian government had decided to question the Indian ambassador and other officials in connection with the murder of one of its citizens (terrorist).
But the Indian government strongly opposed it. Now everyone's attention is focused on the next step of both the countries. It seems that this matter has become complicated and it is difficult to solve it in the near future.
